SDOC PUBLISHING LAUNCHES WEBSITE FOR DAR CHAPTERHOUSTON, TX (April 26, 2004) Website Specialists of SDOC Publishing announced their newest client website has been launched recently. The site was designed for the Tejas Chapter of the heritage society Daughters of the American Revolution. "Working with this organization has been exciting," says SDOC Proprietor and web designer Adrienne Duncan. "The DAR has been making a concerted effort to bring their communications into the 21st century. Building a site for this chapter will help in their public outreach goals, both at a local and national level." According to Duncan, the society had certain guidelines for consistency and quality that were required. But for Duncan, this was not a problem in the least. "Many people cringe at the idea of 'standards' or 'guidelines' as a restriction of their creative process. But for me, it was a message that only my best effort would be acceptable. I find that to be inspiring" The website fulfills several purposes. It reinforces the society's goals of historic preservation and education, informs its members and the public of upcoming events, and invites potential new members to apply. "Even the website graphics themselves were designed to teach about Houston's contributions to American history," Duncan reports. "It was more than just words: the site itself is an educational experience." Tejas chapter members were uniformly enthusiastic. Descriptors such as "fabulous" and "outstanding" were relayed back to SDOC's office. SDOC also learned that within a few days after the site's debut, new requests for membership information were received by the officers.
